It’s almost time for Saturday Night at the Movies—at Dayton’s Centennial Park
Beginning Saturday, Sept. 13, and continuing the following two Saturdays—Sept. 20 and 23—Rhea Heritage Preservation Foundation (RHPF), in cooperation with the Clyde W. Roddy Public Library and the City of Dayton, will present free family movies at Centennial Park adjacent to the Rhea County Courthouse. Beginning at 7:30 each night, a family-friendly movie, complete with free popcorn, will fill the big screen at the park.
“We’re excited with this new opportunity to bring quality entertainment to our community,” RHPF President Rick Dye said. “Working with Brittany West and her staff at the Roddy Library, we believe these movies will offer families three great evenings of free fun downtown.”
West said the movies selected for this year include “Remember the Titans” on Sept. 13, “Father of the Bride” on Sept. 20, and “Wicked” on Sept. 27.
“Since no movie is complete without popcorn, the library staff will have our popcorn machine going starting at 7 p.m., and we’ll be giving out free popcorn to all who come,” she said.
There is limited seating at the park, so everyone is encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs or blankets for the show.
Dayton Mayor Hurley Marsh said the city council is excited about this new activity.
“Friday nights in September are football nights here, but we think Saturdays will be a great time for families to get together and enjoy good entertainment,” he said. “Brittany and the Rhea Heritage Preservation Foundation have picked fun movies for the whole family, and there is no better place to show them than Centennial Park. I hope we will have a good turnout and make this another regular downtown event.”
The park will open at 7 p.m. each night, with the movie beginning at 7:30.
