Scopes Trial Play & Festival sets record attendance
The centennial celebration of the Scopes Trial Play and Festival was a big hit with full houses and guests from all over the United States.
All four performances of the Scopes Trial Play, Destiny in Dayton, were sold out with almost 900 guests in attendance.
Two hundred and fifty people enjoyed Dinner With the Cast. The dinner, originally scheduled for the courthouse lawn, was moved to Dayton City School because of the threat of rain.
About 300 families and individuals enjoyed exhibits, games and free food during Heritage Days and the Coker Museum's exhibit of 1920s vintage automobiles.
More than 75 scholars and amateur historians participated in the Scopes Trial Symposium featuring guest lecturers from all over the world.
Now work begins on the 39th annual celebration of the Scopes Trial Play & Festival, scheduled for July 10-18, 2026.
