One month to go!

Last Updated 6/10/2025

The centennial production of the Scopes Trial Play Destiny in Dayton begins in a month. The trial of the century itself began one month ago today in 1925.

Unlike Inherit the Wind, Destiny in Dayton is the true story of the historic 1925 Scopes Trial. The dialogue is taken primarily from the court transcript, and the play is performed in the original courtroom by local actors led by a professional director, Dan Buck. The trial involved the historic personages of William Jennings Bryan and Clarence Darrow and timeless issues facing Americans even today including science vs. the Bible, evolution vs. creation, and the right of parents to direct the education of their children.
