Economic Director Alex Green volunteers with the Rhea Heritage Foundation
Alex Green is the youngest member of the Rhea Heritage Preservation Foundation board of directors, but he brings with him a lifetime of understanding of Rhea County and deep family roots in the community.
He has been a member of the board for two years, and when asked why he volunteers with an organization dedicated to the history of Rhea County, he said, “I care very much that we celebrate and honor our history and the place we hold in the history of the U.S.
“Keeping our history alive requires effort and funding. To make a successful handoff of our heritage to the next generation, we need more Rhea County residents to get involved. If we aren't intentional, we run the risk of losing our own story, or at least our right to tell it our way.”
Alex has been executive director of the Rhea Economic and Community Development Council for only a few months, but he is already making his presence known around the region and in Nashville.
Alex and his wife, Stefani, a school teacher, live in Dayton and have a daughter, appropriately enough named Emersyn Rhea Green.
While his new job keeps him on the run, in what little free time he has, Alex is a big professional sports fan: he loves the NFL and particularly the Tennessee Titans, as well as Formula 1 racing.
Alex’s favorite RHPF event is the Nokian Tyres Summer Nights concert series each June, but he is also committed to the foundation’s core mission: the annual Scopes Trial Play and Heritage Days held each July.
“I’m continually learning about the history of the Scopes Trial from the other board members,” Alex said. “I’ve also seen their passion for presenting an historically accurate version of the Scopes events, versus the Hollywood version.”
